Ntulume Village Women Development Association (NVIWODA), is a women Non-governmental organization, established in 1987, by a group of women. To celebrate its 25 years Silver Jubilee (1987-2012), NVIWODA will launch the “Connecting Girls; Inspiring Futures through Entrepreneurship training Programme”.
The three year programmes will involve outreaches to Twelve Primary Schools in three districts The programme hopes to reach over two thousand girls with a mission to equip them with entrepreneurship skills as capacity building for sustainable livelihoods which is part of the organizational Vision to promote family incomes at grassroots level.
The Programme Coordinator and Woman Achiever Award Winner in 2006. Cissy Nyarwa says, “To make the event a great success, we hope to rise from members and well wishers. $. 8,458, which will be put towards the new initiative, to reach out to school girls, and prepare them for a positive future.
The organization throughout its existence has focused on social and economic development of women in Uganda, through networks of over thirty community based women and youth groups, geographically located in ten districts of Uganda.
Cissy adds, “Throughout our experience, we have noted that young people fail to get into gainful productivity because they lack entrepreneurship skills. Although it is now on the syllabus in schools, this is merely treated as another subject to pass”. “We want to be practical” she notes.
The launch of the “Connecting Girls, inspiring their Futures through Entrepreneurship 2012-2014 training programme will take place on 16th June 2012 at Mengo Senior Secondary School starting at 9am. This is coincide with the silver jubilee celebrations.
NVIWODA Achievements over the 25 years:-
In 2003 NVIWODA was recognized with a 15th Anniversary Global Fund for Women (GFW) (U.S.A based NGO) Grant Award.
The global Award was given to the women groups who excelled in their work and it was for re-granting to other women groups in Uganda. GFW over many years has supported NVIWODA activities that promote social, economic, human rights and ensuring food security at household level in Uganda.
In 2006, NVIWODA achieved a National Woman Achiever Award. This Award is in recognition to those women in Uganda, who excel in their work of community development and reaching out to empower a wider community of women.
In this regard, NVIWODA excelled in empowering women, through training and equipping them with skills in enterprise development for income generation.
Together we can make it: – The Women Entrepreneurs collectively mobilized financial resources through shareholding and established NVIWODA Development Enterprise Company Limited, to support the trained entrepreneurs.
Over two thousand five hundred women and youth, located in ten districts of Uganda, have benefited from the organization acumen.http://www.nviwoda.wordpress.com,www.nviwoda.interconnection.org
Besides that in 2012, the Senior Mother members reach out to schools to connect and inspire the girls through entrepreneurship. This is aimed at preparing, and building self confidence for a bright future.
