“In the sweat of your face you shall eat your bread”
Ntulume Village Women Development Association (NVIWODA) equips women and men in use and application of ICT’s. Thirty participants, who come from various Community Based Women Groups, have participated in a two days evaluation workshop with aim of reviewing the impact of CJA/ICT’s capacity building that was supported by African Women Development Fund (AWDF) in 2009.
Through a number of interactions with women, it has been established majority women mostly the disadvantaged do not effectively benefit from the opportunities given by ICT’s only because they do not have the capacity to utilize them. Even the mobile phone which is owned by some women, they said they do not know how to use it effectively besides calling and receiving calls. For the advancement of women’s emancipation NVIWODA has trained rural women in ICT’s to able them demystify the technology.
The participating organizations included; Abataka Abagalana, St.Bruno Doll Making Group, Kabowa Women Savings and Cooperative Society, Nezikokolima Women Group, Reach out to the Wives of the Soldiers, Afayo Family Support Group, Mpigi Rural Women Network, L’ach Uganda, Women and Youth Nutrition Farmers Group, Bivamuntuyo Community Group, Community Resource Focus, God is able with Children with Disabilities, and a Freelance Journalist among others.
The workshop focused on evaluating the members, as to how they have effectively utilized ICT’s for the advancement of their organizations/enterprises. NVIWODA being a network member of WOUGNET participants were also introduced to Social Networking Tools Web 2.0 that excited the participants.
This forum enhanced information sharing and networking among the member groups of NVIWODA, at the end of the workshop the participants were motivated to adopt ICT’s as a tool to advance human development.
